Mermaid and Dolphin

mermaid-and-dolphin

Mermaid number two, and the first pattern that I altered substantially. The original pattern had an odd-looking sea-horse, instead of a dolphin. It looked more like a small dragon to me than a sea horse, so I replaced it. It is funny for me to think back on how nervous I was to make the change in the pattern; I now do so without a second thought. I love her big honkin’ tail, and the glass I used for it. It was a bit nerve-wracking, cutting the glass for it. It was the first time I had done a cut so complicated, and the glass is difficult to break, because of the layers in it. And I only had that small scrap, just enough to do the two pieces. In fact, when I was grinding the main body of the tail, there was a bubble, and the end of it popped off. Solution? The clear band. This one also ultimately sold to a friend.

    • hi heather. I do commissioned work. this particular piece has a home, but I still have the pattern. if you are interested in talking about it, please email me at glasswenchstudio@gmail.com. the email on this website works only intermitently, and they do not know why.

  3. Do you still have the dolphin / mermaid pattern??? I’ve been trying to find something like this to make.

    • the pattern is included in a book called Maidens, Myths, and mermaids. easy search on the web.
